GLASGOW 2014 : Anurudhdha misses bronze medal in boxing

Sri Lankan boxer Anurudha Ratnayake missed a golden opportunity to win a bronze medal in Men’s Fly (52kg) of the 20th Commonwealth Games 2014.when he lost to Guyana’s Abdul Omar 3-1 rounds today

Sri Lankan boxer in his last appearance in a Commonwealth Games was very much ambitious to go for a metal. He bet Uganda’s Semitala Rogers in the quarter finals 3-0 in his way to the semi-finals.

Bu Omar has other ideas, he wion the first round 30-27. Ratnayake bouince back with heavy knocks and won the second round 29-28.

But in the decider- Third round, Ratnayake could not hold the resistance from his opponent and went down 30-27 shatered his medal hope in the Commonwealth Games for the second consecutive time in the Commonwealth Games. This was the destiny of him at the last Commonwealth Games in Delhi 2010.

Meanwhile Sri Lankan female boxers also will be in action later today

Hansika will compete in women's Light (57-60kg) Round of 16, while Shiromali Weerarathna will compete in women’s Middle (69-75kg) Round of 16.
