A father walking with his young child was killed by a small aircraft that crash landed along a Florida beach, police say.
The pilot and his passenger sent a distress signal before trying to land their 1972 Piper Cherokee land on Caspersen Beach, according to Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.
The plane was unable to make it back to Venice Airport during its flight.
The pair were not injured by the 2:45 p.m. rough landing, but a man walking with his daughter was killed. It’s not clear if he was hit by the plane or debris, Wendy Rose, a spokeswoman with the sheriff’s office, told the Daily News.

The little girl identified as 9-year-old Oceana Irizarry was airlifted to All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg in critical condition. Her father has been identified as Ommy Irizarry, 36, of Georgia.
Their city of residence is not known at this time.
Medics also transported a woman to a hospital for having chest pains after witnessing the crash, according to ABC News.
